A while ago we wrote a blog about the story of the family behind the Dolcino concept. Some people were surprised to hear that Dolcino is an independent, family-run brand. But over 2 years after we opened the first Dolcino in Loughborough, we’re happy to report that we’ve become well known there as a family-run cafe. And we’ve got to know so many of you to the extent that these days we think of our customers as our extended family!
Our decision to open a second store in Nottingham wasn’t easy. We knew it would split us in two, taking us away from Loughborough sometimes. But we’re seeing our brand through the eyes of the big city with lots to learn from our customers and a variety of new products to add as we go along! You’ll see some small differences between our two stores and the need to cater for different types of customer is what drives it. This is the beauty of running an independent cafe concept.
For us, running an Italian cafe and dessert diner has to be about our family ethos as well. We’re proud of our family gelato-making secrets that go back several generations. Gelato has to be made in the right way, and we use a range of ingredients, including fresh fruit for our sorbets and the finest gelato flavours we can find either locally, or from the leading Italian suppliers. And although in the early days we made all the gelato ourselves, we now have two fantastic gelataio (trained gelato-makers) to help us.
We’re also committed to our front-of-house team. If they’re happy, you’re happy (we hope). A number of them have been with us since we opened our doors for the first time in July 2015 and we think of them as part of the wider Dolcino family.
Finally, we’re proud to be able to offer you a family-friendly experience and we’re extremely grateful to our Loughborough customers who voted for us in the ‘Best Family-Friendly Restaurant’ category of the English Italian 2017 awards.
Thanks to your votes we have been shortlisted in this and two other categories and will attend the finals in Manchester in mid-October. Watch this space for news on how we do in the finals.
However, we don’t want to leave it there as things change, sometimes at a rapid pace! Not keen to let the grass grow under our feet, we continue to work with you, the customer, on the best offering possible at any given time. Our feedback cards are available to fill out in both stores and we spend a lot of time listening to what our team tell us about customer feedback.
You can leave reviews for us on TripAdvisor, Facebook (Dolcino Nottingham and Dolcino Loughborough) and Google and we are happy to converse with customers on those platforms as well as via email or face to face. What’s important to us is staying in touch and incorporating your comments in everything we do.
So, the future of our concept is in your hands. We hope that you enjoy our artisan gelato, as well as our wide range of quality dishes – waffles, crepes, sweet and savoury snacks, hot and cold drinks and choc and fruit milkshakes.
